Toba Khedoori, "Untitled (Black Fireplace)"

LACMA has announced exhibitions for 2016 and early 2017. Among them are surveys of Toba Khedoori and Moholy-Nagy; a large show of German Renaissance art; an exhibition built around the mutual influences of Picasso and Diego Rivera. Also on the calendar, as previously announced, are Robert Mapplethorpe, “Reigning Men,” and Agnes Martin. (Shown, Khedoori’s Untitled [Black fireplace], 2006; a “Macaroni” suit from “Reigning Men”.)

Macaroni suit• “Robert Mapplethorpe: The Perfect Medium” (Mar. 20-July 31, 2016)

• “Reigning Men: Fashion in Menswear, 1715-2015″ (Apr. 10-Aug. 21, 2016)

• “Agnes Martin” (Apr. 24-Sep. 11, 2016)

• “Toba Khedoori” (Sep. 25, 2016-Jan. 16, 2017)

• “Renaissance and Reformation: German Art in the Age of Dürer and Cranach” (Nov. 20, 2016-Mar. 26, 2017)

• “Picasso and Rivera: Conversations Across Time” (Dec. 4, 2016-Apr. 30, 2017)

• “Moholy-Nagy: Future Present” (Feb. 12-June 18, 2017)

Most are set to travel. Mapplethorpe, co-organized with the Getty, is going to Montreal and Sydney. “Reigning Men” is also going to Sydney (Powerhouse Museum) and to St. Louis. Agnes Martin opened at the Tate and is now in Düsseldorf; it goes to the Guggenheim NY after LACMA. Picasso and Rivera travels to the Museo del Palacio de Bellas Arts, Mexico City, in mid 2017.

“Renaissance and Reformation” is being organized with the state museums of Berlin, Dresden, and Munich. These institutions own many of the great works of Dürer, Holbein, Grünwald, and Riemenschneider, all of whom are to be represented.
